Mirror Lake Trail Relocation

Updated: Mar 21 2019

Last year, we worked closely with ACF West, Inc on this project in Government Camp as part of the Mirror Lake Trail Relocation project on Mt Hood. Construction by @SWP Contracting & Paving. We designed a welded wire face MSE wall with TenCate Protective Fabrics Mirafi #Uniaxial #Geogrid #reinforcement. Welded Wire Face Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) Walls are a type of retaining wall structure used in civil engineering and construction for various applications. These walls are designed to provide stability to soil slopes and retain the earth behind them. The welded wire face refers to the facing of the wall, which is made up of welded wire mesh.

Here are some common applications and purposes of Welded Wire Face MSE Walls:

  1. Retaining Walls: The primary purpose of Welded Wire Face MSE Walls is to act as retaining walls. They are used to support and stabilize soil or other materials, preventing them from sliding or eroding. These walls are particularly effective in situations where conventional retaining walls might be challenging to construct or not cost-effective.

  2. Erosion Control: MSE walls with welded wire faces can be used for erosion control along embankments and hillsides. By stabilizing the soil and preventing erosion, these walls help maintain the integrity of the landscape and protect against potential damage caused by water runoff.

  3. Infrastructure Support: MSE walls are often employed to support transportation infrastructure, such as highways and railways, where there is a need to create level surfaces on uneven or sloping terrain. The welded wire facing provides a durable and stable surface.

  4. Bridge Abutments: Welded Wire Face MSE Walls are commonly used as bridge abutments, providing structural support to the embankments near bridge structures. They offer a cost-effective and efficient solution for creating stable foundations in varying soil conditions.

  5. Aesthetic Facing: The welded wire facing of MSE walls can be customized for aesthetic purposes, allowing for the incorporation of architectural finishes or vegetation to enhance the visual appeal of the structure. This makes them suitable for projects where aesthetics are a consideration.

  6. Speed of Construction: One of the advantages of MSE walls, including those with welded wire faces, is that they can be constructed relatively quickly compared to traditional retaining walls. The modular nature of these walls allows for faster installation and reduced construction time.

  7. Variety of Soils: Welded Wire Face MSE Walls can be designed to work with a variety of soil types, making them versatile for different geological conditions. The design considers the specific engineering requirements of the site and the intended purpose of the wall.

Overall, Welded Wire Face MSE Walls are versatile and widely used in civil engineering projects where soil stabilization and retention are essential. Their design flexibility, speed of construction, and effectiveness in various applications contribute to their popularity in the construction industry.
